Art overview, week 112
January 9th, 2011
I was inspired by David's weekly videos to make something of my own. It may take me a few weeks to get the hang of it, but here is my first try. Be sure to watch it in HD (this is the first video we've posted in 1080p)! If you liked this video, be sure to subscribe to ...
Are Games Art? The Aftermath
December 6th, 2010
The following is a guest post by the always thoughtful and provocative game developer known as Wilbefast. Even if you haven't being following the "Games are art" debate you've probably heard about Roger Ebert's claim, in 2005, that no game can ever be "art". This is a guest art post from Huey who sent us a series of his hand-drawn sketches which were inspired by Overgrowth. Huey is only 9 years old but I can objectively say that his drawing abilities already exceed mine. Along with letting us share his pictures, he was kind enough to share a few words with us about his ...
Real life locations
September 6th, 2010
As I mentioned before, the locations for Overgrowth are inspired by real-life locations. While a lot of good research can be found online, there's no substitute for actually visiting places in person. Important aspects of the experience can be lost or misunderstood when relying solely on descriptions and photos. For example, I recently visited Yellowstone National Park while traveling ...
